MY WEDDING DAY

10.3.2010

Take me back to my wedding day.... It really was the most memorable, most special day ever, and I wouldn't change a thing! I mean it.

I organised the whole day, and I had a year to start preparing and planning my wedding. It felt daunting at first as it was like organising the biggest party and event of my life, I was like where do I start!?

THE DRESS - PRONOVIAS

What dress am I going to wear? I'd never really looked at wedding dresses before, or paid too much attention to them. I had been engaged for four years and it wasn't until my parents said they would help us with the costs, that the wedding actually became a reality.

A friend of mine had recently been married and had just arrived home from Europe so I asked for her advice. She told me that she found a Pronovias dress in London. It sounded very glam, and right up my alley. She then showed me the official Pronovias site, and the 2010 collection had just been released!  The first image I saw of was a bride wearing the most beautiful dress I had ever seen! It was staring right at me. The dress was a heart shaped bodice beaded and ruffled, with an over the shoulder beaded strap, it screamed  grecian goddess to me, all sparkly, then from the waist down it was dreamy and floaty with bellowing light fabric. I was mesmerised and I knew I had to have it.

I feel like once you find the dress, the whole wedding just comes together. It’s like you can breathe again once you have found ''The one''!

I found a boutique in Christchurch that stocked Pronovias dresses. They were very exclusive at the time, a fashion label of Elie Sabb, made in Europe. True couture gowns. I was on the phone immediately asking if this was possible to get, and if it would arrive in time for my wedding due to the collection not even coming out yet!

My dress arrived a month before my big day. I remember the overwhelming excitement and nerves I felt knowing it was here. All I had to do was try it on and hope it was everything I had imagined. The last piece of the puzzle, and it fitted perfectly.

GETTING READY - MILLBROOK RESORT

We stayed at a gorgeous room at Millbrook the night before and I spent my wedding morning with the girls.

Fruit and cheese platters, champagne, hair and makeup, visitors with well wishes, the flowers, it is all go in the morning, leading up to the moment.

I have now learned that I'm not the only bride to leave it this late, and it’s very common practice to write the vows the night before your wedding…

THE CEREMONY - THELBY DOMAIN

We had our ceremony amongst Beautiful manicured grounds located in a valley. It all felt very serene with willow trees and wildflowers overlapping the quiet stream.

Thelby Domain also has stone ruins on the property dating back a few hundred years that created a magical setting and giving it a slightly European feel which is also part of my heritage. It was a perfect autumn day not a cloud in the sky.

VENUE - THE WINEHOUSE

I believe our wedding was one of the first to ever be held at The Winehouse. We wined and dined on their incredible wine selection and food menu catered to our wishes. My chosen drink of the evening was Feijoa sparkling wine, which I had sent to me from our friend's organic orchard in Warkworth New Zealand.

We had a set menu that guests were able to choose from, and desert was our wedding cake, a three tiered carrot cake from Vudu (now Bespoke Kitchen).

Rings: Waka Jewelry and Zoe and Morgan

I had my engagement ring made locally at Waka jewellery store, Andy is a bespoke jeweller, and together we designed a beautiful cushion cut diamond ring on spit shanks with pave diamonds all around. Our wedding bands were made by Zoe and Morgan Jewelers in Auckland.

Photography: Still Vision

Flowers: Tilly Grant bespoke florist

My bouquet vision was a soft colour palette to compliment my dress and the theme of the day, which was, soft/feminine, floaty and dreamy, and timeless. Did I ask for much??!!  I absolutely adored what Tilly created and was speechless when they arrived at Millbrook.

Wedding Party

We had three gorgeous bridesmaids, three handsome groomsmen, and a flowergirl, my daughter Tallulah who was super sweet at two years old.

Dougal and my wedding day was filled with love. It was beautiful, and I'm forever grateful for that day.

Love Kirsty xx

I would love to be a part of your special day.
